Locally Sourced

We are a Pacific Northwest company, passionate about sourcing locally – and proud of our relationship with small, independent farms. For example, 95% of the Tulsi for Joyroot Tulsi Herbal Fruit Tea is sourced from Oshala Farm in Applegate, Oregon.

Oshala Farm

Since 2013, Elise and Jeff Higley have been combining Elise’s knowledge of Western Herbalism with Jeff’s decades-long background in organic farming to grow a variety of products on their 113-acre property, about 25 acres of which are in production this year.

Among those 25 acres, the Higleys plant Tulsi for Joyroot’s Tulsi Ginger and Tulsi Lemon Herbal Teas.

“We are at the size where we can care, really care for, and nurture our plants,” says Elise. “We want to be a steward of the land. We are really concerned about the health of our soil.”

At Joyroot, we are proud of our partnership with Oshala Farm. Learn more about the amazing things Elise and Jeff are doing there by visiting oshalafarm.com.

Healthy Planet

One of our reasons for creating Joyroot was to build a company committed to giving back. That’s why we are a proud partner to 1% for the Planet – committing at least 1% of our annual sales to environmental causes.

Co-founded in 2002 by renowned environmentalist and founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard, 1% for the Planet seeks to “bring dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving.”

Since its inception, 1% for the Planet has certified more than $250 million in support to approved environmental nonprofits. Find out more about this planet-saving organization at onepercentfortheplanet.org.

Sustainability Focused

Everything we do keeps the environment in mind and that’s why Joyroot teas are bottled in glass. The beauty of glass is that, once produced, a piece of glass has an almost never-ending lifecycle – reducing the need to produce more original glass.

In fact, glass can be infinitely recycled without losing quality (unlike plastic and paper) – and the glass recycling process itself uses less energy than the processes to recycle other materials. Furthermore, since glass is rarely treated with chemicals for durability, so glass recycling is easier, better for the environment and better for everyone.

Always Organic

Sourcing almost 100% organic, chemical- and pesticide-free ingredients does more than elevate the healthfulness, quality and safety of the Joyroot products you enjoy.

It also protects the health of the soil, the integrity of the water supply and the vitality of the ecosystem (including the animals, insects and organisms) that are essential to a sustainable world. What’s more, organic farming protects those who work the land from exposure to dangerous chemicals and pesticides.

Once you know more about organic farming, it becomes clear how this method of growing is essential to ensuring the health and sustainability of our world.
